DISCOVERING ARTISTRY
Each student has the capacity to develop artistic expression. Musical “talent” or “gift” is nothing more than the result of a student’s wholehearted commitment to the study of music. My goal is to help students discover their own artistry as a facet of their personal character by giving them a strong foundation of musical skills, tools, and techniques.
CRITICAL THINKING
The ability to think critically and imaginatively to problem solve is a necessary skill for 21st-century living. I seek to develop these skills in music students by structuring lessons that do not “spoon feed” correct answers, but assists students to discover the answers themselves. The ultimate goal is to provide students with the necessary tools, critical thinking skills, and ability to self-reflect that help them in their music-making and beyond.
CREATING COMMUNITY
Music making is inherently a communal and relationship-based process. While private lessons are one-on-one, it is important that students are exposed to and build relationships with fellow musician students. The studio builds on this communal aspect by providing opportunities that allow students of similar age & level to come together, play for each other, and create community.
